This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending a friend's wedding on the island of Nantucket—otherwise known as "the Gray Lady"—located about 26 miles off the coast of Cape Cod, MA. I embarked on the two-hour ferry ride with much anticipation, dreaming of what the activities might entail and how many bowls of delicious, hot and steamy clam chowder I could possibly consume in one weekend (for the record, only three).

The wedding weekend was a whirlwind of festivities all in keeping with the laid-back, beachy Nantucket vibe, from a rustic cocktail party at a newly renovated barn to a rehearsal dinner at Jetties Beach with fresh locally caught lobster. The weekend culminated with a tented reception under the stars at the Cisco Brewery (the Blueberry Ale is a must try). However, what struck me most about the weekend—other than the glowing bride—was the integration of the island's picturesque landscape into the festivities and decorations. About 3½ by 14 miles in size, Nantucket has its own innate charm that naturally permeates every square inch of an island wedding.

So, as I begrudgingly made the journey home, chock full of clam chowder and with slightly sore dancing feet, I reflected on how very special fall weddings—and particularly a Nantucket one—can be.
