Destination Wedding: St. Lucia

3 hot hotels in this southern Caribbean paradise for your wedding day

The southern Caribbean island is feted for its surreal beauty: rugged, luxuriant landscapes swathed in colors so electric they seem spray-painted on. With backdrops like that, is it any wonder St. Lucia is a destination wedding favorite? Below, our picks for the island’s most memorable hotel hosts for your special day.

THE JALOUSIE PLANTATION, SUGAR BEACH

Recent renovations at Jalousie—a colonial-style property located between the two Piton mountains on Sugar Beach, the southwest’s only white-sand beach—have taken the property from luxe to uber-luxe. Eleven opulent Sugar Mill Rooms feature private gardens, plunge pools and butler service; the Rainforest Spa beckons with treehouse-style treatment rooms and a temascal (Amerindian steam room); the chic Cane Bar is ideal for the ultimate indulgence: a mid-day rum punch.

Jalousie’s “Just for Two” wedding package ($599), complimentary to guests staying seven nights, includes a wedding arch, dinner for the wedding party, a wedding cake, breakfast in bed and hand-embroidered linens. The “Piton Splendor” package ($1199) adds a DVD and photographer; the “Jalousie Escape” ($1899) includes a sunset cruise, massage treatments and musical entertainment.

LADERA

The name says it all. Ladera’s newly unveiled “Paradise Pavillion” has fast become the island’s premiere wedding locale because it offers the chance to say vows in the heart of St. Lucia’s signature view: an1100-foot vista overlooking the Caribbean sea and the majestic Piton mountains—dubbed “Helen of the Caribbean.” Rooms at the renowned resort are loved less for what’s there than for what isn’t: a fourth wall. That architectural detail allows for a gloriously unobstructed panorama—which lets blissed-out couples pretend that their four-poster bed is nestled in the heart of the Pitons. And that, quite simply, is paradise.

Wedding packages start at $950 (for the Romance Package). The Dream Wedding ($7500) package throws in a Paradise Pavillion ceremony, sunset cruise, steel-pan entertainment, spa treatments and dinner at the distinguished Dasheene Restaurant, where local food is infused with deliciously international flair.

TI KAYE VILLAGE, RESORT & SPA

When it takes a village to host a wedding, Ti Kaye is the one. Accommodations are spectacular: 33 gingerbread-style cottages—“Ti Kaye” means “little house” in Creole—scattered precipitously down a seaside mountain on St. Lucia’s west coast. But rooms and views are just the tip of the iceberg. At the stunning Kai Koko Spa, indulge in an array of Balinese-style treatments; on the black-sand beach, enjoy every island activity under the sun: swimming, kayaking, volleyball and, notably, diving, at the fully-equipped onsite dive shop. It’s a village no wedding guest will want to leave.

Wedding Packages ($960.00) include a wedding coordinator, decorated wedding location in Ti Kaye’s seaside gardens, bridal bouquet, candlelight dinner, wine tasting options and—the ultimate—a West Indian rum cake. Photographer, steel band and other add-ons are available.
