Whoever said wedding drama was a bad thing? Fashion-forward brides, take note—dramatic hairstyles were a must on runways this season. Translation: These high-pouf looks will certainly turn heads as you walk down the aisle. We talked to Billy Yamaguchi, a guest stylist at Lake Austin Spa Resort in Austin, Texas, for his tips on how you can re-create the look.

Make a Statement

St. Pucchi Couture, Avine Perucci by St. Pucchi and Sposa by St. Pucchi all wowed with hairstyles pulled back tightly to the top of the head, which then became an explosion of curls in a dramatic, high bun. Each look was topped off with decorative headbands, both silky and sequined. “Brides can add soft flowers, accessorize with pins or curl the ends of their hair to make the look wearable,” says Yamaguchi.

Flower Power

Douglas Hannant also took hair to the next level with messy, high styles not made for shy brides—the teased, rough hair texture was interwoven with large floral hydrangeas. “Keep the look loose and carefree,” Yamaguchi advises. “It should be messy on purpose. Think romantic and sensual.”

Tame Your Locks

On the milder side, Christos showed a more polished look, with hair smoothed back into a bun that left ends swinging free.

How to Get the Look

“Smooth the front and tease the ends, then curl them with a curling iron,” Yamaguchi says. “Shake your hair out after curling, and comb the ends with your fingers before pulling your hair back; this way, the curls will be looser.” To make sure the look is polished without being overdone, he recommends his namesake line’s Mochi Mousse for volume, Sake hair spray and Geisha Keratin Treatment ($18 to $24; yamaguchibeauty.com)
