If there's any day to feel like a star, it's your wedding. And what better way to do so than by borrowing thousands of dollars worth of jewels like celebrities on the red carpet? That's what Bert Stouffer asked when he founded Adorn.com, the Web's first fine jewelry rental site.
One Click Away
Adorn-ing yourself is a quick, four-step process: shop for diamonds, rent them with your credit card, look like a million bucks and send them back. The company's mission is a cinch, too; find the right jewels to match the perfect dress—without the anxiety-ridden experience. "We have built a business around the concept that every woman should be able to afford her own 'red carpet' moment without the prohibitive (for most of us) expense of ownership," says Amy Chernoff, the site's vice president of marketing.
With average price points ranging from $75 to $190, brides get a chance to glitter and glow while leaving their bank accounts intact. All pieces are mounted in 18K white gold, and brides can order everything from traditional white diamonds to sultry sapphires. If you're looking to spend a bit more on a wedding day look, Adorn.com also carries one-of-a-kind "vault" pieces, like their Crestwood necklace, which includes 14 carats of diamonds.
Ease of Use
The process couldn't be easier. After selecting pieces and rental dates, Adorn sends the bride's jewels in specially-packaged boxes with a pre-paid return shipping label. Rental time is usually four days, but guests can rent jewelry for as long as needed with extended packages for wedding pictures, honeymoons and destination events. Worried you'll damage some precious pieces? Insurance and cleaning fees are built in to the rental price.
So what's the most have-to-have rental on the site? "Hands down the Chadwick bracelet," says Chernoff of the wide, micro-pavé-dusted bangle. "It has a lot going for it, with the diamond-encrusted cuff design having a vintage appeal."
